The Job Role
Database Administrators
(DBA) determine ways to organize, store data and work with database management systems software.
oversee the operation of computer hardware systems, mainframes, minicomputers, networks and personal computers.
They identify user requirements, test and setup databases and coordinate modifications to the systems.
DBAs understand the platform on which the database runs, ensure data integrity, back up systems and manage the performance of the systems.
Administrators may be responsible for:
• Systems security; plan, coordinate and implement security measures
• Managing large projects and work independently or on teams
They should possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of technical and non-technical staff.
Recommended Education:
• Associate's Degree
• Bachelor's Degree in computer science or information systems
• Experience and/or technical certifications
