"Cannot find Flash Media" error when using MediaPoint CD

Symptoms:

When using a MediaPoint CD, you get a "Media Error:" pop up when the training window loads. The error discription reads "Could not locate the flash media clip".

Detailed Information:

This problem may indicate that:

  • You may have the wrong MediaPoint CD installed
  • You have the wrong stream speed selected
  • You may have the wrong drive selected in the "stream speed" area, or;
  • You may have Flash Player 8 installed.

Macromedia has included a security feature in Flash Player 8 that prevents web applications from accessing Flash media located locally on the computer. This security measure was implamented after the creation of the MediaPoint technology.

Solution:

Note: Ensure that you have "MediaPoint CD" selected as your stream speed and the right drive letter selected on the training launch page.

You must install Flash player 7 or earlier for the MediaPoint CD to work.

  • Download FlashPlayer 7 here.
  • Run the installer, and if during the installation you are given the choice to uninstall Flash Player, do so, and run the installer again.
  • To see if your installation of flash player 7 was successful, place your cursor over any Flash animation on a web page, and click the right mouse button. The resulting popup should say "About Macromedia Flash Player 7" at the bottom. If it says "About Macromedia Flash player 8" your install was not successful. (The animation at the top of this page: www.shadowbox.ca can be used for the test).
  • If your install was unsuccessful, go to Start / Control Panel, and select "Add or Remove programs".
  • Find Flash Player 8 in the list of programs and select " Change/Remove".
  • Once you have uninstalled Flash Player 8, run the Flash Player 7 installer you downloaded earlier.
